Why there is no single official 'list' file

IPSA publishes MP business cost data in stages — itemised claims for some categories, annual totals for others, released periodically rather than as one master spreadsheet.

This site imports those releases and combines them into a single searchable database, so 'the list' here means every MP's page, not one document.

What 'total claimed' means

A total is the sum of the IPSA-published business cost records held for an MP in the selected financial year. It is not salary, personal income or a measure of parliamentary performance.

The total can combine staffing, office, travel, accommodation and other categories using the labels IPSA published for that period. Open the profile to see the category breakdown before drawing conclusions from one number.

Why totals differ between MPs

MPs do not all operate in the same circumstances. Constituency distance from Westminster, office arrangements, staffing choices, accessibility needs and accommodation eligibility can all affect the published categories.

A larger or smaller total does not by itself establish whether a claim was necessary, unusual or appropriate. This site keeps the figures neutral and links through to the source records so readers can inspect the detail.

Financial years and publication timing

IPSA data is organised by UK financial year rather than calendar year. Choose one period before comparing totals so the figures cover the same time window.

How to check a figure

Is there one official list of all MP expenses?
